The day you and  Windsor Realty have been waiting for is here!  It’s moving day!  Nothing about this day will be normal and calm no matter how organized you are.  Keep in mind that there are often small problems or issues, but know that this is all part of the moving process.  Your job is to make sure that your day goes as smoothly as possible.  Here are some suggestions from  Windsor Realty:

Once the movers arrive, be sure and check the Bill of Lading.  Before they start loading your boxes, make sure the terms match from your original service order.  Address any problems or concerns.  Once the movers get started, supervise the packing process and be available to answer any questions the movers may have.  And finally, have some water and snacks available for everyone, including yourself, as you will find everyone works well with some food in them.   Before the movers leave, walk through the house to check for any damages that they may have caused when moving furniture or boxes through your home.

Once the movers have left, walk through your house for a final time.  Check every room, closet, basement and attic for any leftover boxes or belongings.  Make sure all appliances are off and the temperature is turned down or off.

When you arrive at your new home, do a walk through. Make sure that everything is there that was included in your contract and the utilities are on as it’s no fun moving in the dark. Make sure nothing is broken and contact your real estate agent immediately if there are any problems.

As the movers arrive, be ready to have them start. If you have pets in the house, leave a note on the front door reminding them to be cautious.  Tape the names of each room to the doors to help the movers easily find where to place the boxes and furniture. Don’t hesitate to ask the movers to move a piece of furniture if it’s in the wrong place or you want it in a different location.  Once they are finished, walk through again with them to ensure that no damage occurred to your furniture, walls or any pieces were broken.

Finally, don’t forget to tip.  Have cash available for each mover provided his or her service was good.  Once you send the movers on their way, it’s time for you to sit back, relax for a moment and enjoy your new home. From Windsor Realty, congratulations!
